Abstract:

based on current regulations into acoustic and thermal comfort of housing, the wood and woods panels have indisputable advantages over other materials, such as, brick, and concrete. thus, proposes to assess acoustic attenuation as a predictor of behavior of four kind of woods panel, by measuring the ultrasonic attenuation expressed in decibels. establishing a methodology of acoustical prediction behavior of materials based on a transmitter and receiver transducer positioning schedule, which allows a known ultrasonic propagation through a specific direction. propagation behavior of the sound source is defined by the internal structure, composition and distribution of elements. the ultrasonic frequencies used were 0.1 and 0.5 mhz. four kind woods panel studied were: ply wood, particleboard, oriented strand board (osb), fiberboard panel. the results indicate the importance and technical applicability of the nondestructive methodology used, also attribute the different levels of heterogeneity present in each board as the main indicator of the different acoustic behavior. the degree of heterogeneity present in each board-level internal structure, significantly explained the behavior of ultrasonic attenuation in plywood and osb, representing best constructive solutions from the acoustic point of view. the degree of compaction or fibers associated with small particles streaming media provides high density and homogeneous, which is associated with high levels of propagation, hence low acoustic insulation
