Abstract: aim: this study has aimed to evaluate the efficacy of group psychotherapy in the evolution of first episode psychosis. methods: by means of a naturalistic study, we compared the evolution of 37 first episode psychoses after 6 years. twelve came to group therapy and the rest received conventional treatment. evaluation interviews were conducted at admission, one and 6 years. the methods used were panss, gaf, grip on life and a standardized semi-structured questionnaire. results: the results at the end of the study were significantly better for patients who received group therapy for both symptomatic (positive-panss, negative-panss) and functional outcome (gaf, grip on life). conclusion: psychotherapeutic interventions, including group therapy, favors the recovery of the psychotic patient not only regarding specific symptoms but also in their overall functioning.
