Abstract: objetive: to assess laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomy by results. method: retrospective chart review of 400 interventions, performed for the period of october 1991, to october 2003. our personal surgical technique is described in detail. setting: hospital "luis blanco gásperi. cruz roja venezolana, seccional valencia. estado carabobo, venezuela. results: the mean age of the patients was 42 years. the principal indications for hysterectomy were leiomiomatosis and genital prolapse. the mean average operating room time was 148 minutes, which includes 70% to which another surgical procedure was practiced. the mean uterine weight was 198 g, and mean uterine length was 12.6 cm. the overall transoperatorian accidents rate was minor than 5%. there were bladder and intestinal injuries. the main postoperative complications were urinary infections, in 2% patients. the mean length of hospital stay was 1.8 days. conclusions: this procedure is secure, and more economic than technique of stapler. there are also social and finantial advantages.
