Abstract:

thirty-eight drug-addicted patients undergoing a recuperation process were evaluated through questionnaires and tests of salivary-flow, buffering capacity, dmft and dmfs so that their psychological profile and oral health conditions could be determined. the results showed that the main causes for drug-addiction was curiosity, family problems and a friendship influence. salivary flow and buffering capacity varied respectively from 0.64 to 0.94 and from 5.00 to 5.71. the dmft and dmfs varied from 6.28 to 14.69 for the component decayed; from 14.64 to 34.52 for the component missing; from 3.45 to 18.14 for the component filled and from 0.0 to 2.86 for the component extraction indicated. it can be concluded that patients were emotionally disturbed with a shy behavior. salivary flow and buffering capacity showed normal values and the dmfs and dmft showed high levels.
