Evaluación del estado nutricional en pacientes VIH/SIDA del municipio San Cristóbal

a descriptive and retrospective study was conducted aimed at deepening in the nutritional status of the hiv/aids patients in san cristobal municipality during 1997-2007. the universe of the study was comprised of 25 patients confirmed as cases and a sample of 22 individuals having the selection criteria of a stable permanence in the municipality. data were obtained from the files for the obligatory declaration of diseases and clinical records prepared during the first consultation. during the diagnosis and ending of the study the nutritional status was collected by sexes. the association with other opportunist diseases and the nutritional status was assessed; as well as the effects of the antiretroviral medications. a percentage analysis of the data was carried out. in the diagnosis 68,1% of the patients were under weight, prevailing male sex (80%) followed by those in normal weight (22,7%), 17 patients suffered from a type of opportunist diseases. the 54, 5% of the these diseases were reported in under-weight patients and pneumonia was the most frequent (58,3%). the nutritional support therapy decreased the number of patients having low-weight, significantly (from 68% to 27.2%). the total of patients (100%) classified as low weight that ended the study underwent to antiretroviral medications. concluding that the nutritional support therapy influences positively in the modification of the nutritional status. the opportunist diseases prevailed in low-weight patients and the antiretroviral therapy contributed to the low-weight during the early months of treatment.
