in this paper the panará value of energy and sociability (suakiin) is contrasted with its opposite, lack of energy, social withdrawal (suangka), in order to show how panará daily life is constituted. characterised as physical, social and moral conditions, intersubjective availability or lack thereof are central to the creation of everyday sociality among panará people. the role of such affective relations is then analysed with regard to child rearing and gardening, processes, which in certain respects can be seen to be related to one another. in particular it is argued that certain pre- and post-natal practices find their parallel in practices surrounding the planting, growing and harvesting of peanuts.
