Experiencia en cirugía oncoplástica en cáncer de mama

Abstract:

objective: oncoplastic surgery is defined as the use of plastic surgery techniques in oncological procedures for breast cancer. evaluate the experience in oncological institute ?dr. miguel perez carre?o?, from 2000 - 2008. methods: a descriptive, retrospective study was performed. the clinical charts of 49 patients with diagnosis of breast cancer managed with reconstructive surgery after undergoing radical cancer treatment were reviewed. we evaluated age of the patients, histological diagnosis, location of primary tumor, stage, neoadjuvant and adjuvant therapy received type of oncoplastic surgery performed, reconstruction timing, appearance, location of relapse as well as postoperative complications encountered. results: of the 49 patients evaluated 27 % had ages between 41-50 years. the most frequent histological type was infiltrating ductal adenocarcinoma (90 %). the stage of the disease most commonly observed was iib (29 %). 56.% of patients received adjuvant therapy 72 % neoadjuvant therapy. the type of reconstructive surgery most commonly performed was prosthesis placement with preservation of the nipple areola complex (41 %) and reconstruction with transverse rectus abdominus myocutaneous flap (20 %). the 63 % of patients developed distant disease. 67 % of patients underwent immediate reconstruction. flap necrosis was seen in 12 % of cases. conclusion: surgical treatment of breast cancer has become oncologically radical with immediate reconstruction, depending on the conditions of each patient and the technique employed. the main goal is to provide effective treatment and aesthetically acceptable in order to improve the quality of life.
