the objective of this article is to evaluate the logical and historical pertinence of management in the present. the evaluation is carried put on two levels with the following methodology based on epistemological principles of interpretive system logy. on the first level (logic) the legitimacy of the capacity management function is questioned in order predict human behavior, which is supposed to be fundamental in the achievement of organizational objectives, according to the information offered by alisdair macintyre. on the second level (historical) the research is oriented towards determining the historical conditions which brought about present management, in order to determine the pertinence of the management function in the present. management is reasoned through the historical contexts of illustrated modernity and post-modernity, in such a way as to give sense to the present day situation. the review of both of these levels results in the obvious lack of logic in the present process and questions its logical sense. the conclusion centers around a reflection on the possibility of a new managerial sense that responds to the present day situation.
