the paper contextualizes the peculiarities of brazilian political emancipation process, assuming three basic presuppositions: that it was a reasonably long process, over determined by imposition of hegemonic interest groups of southeast over the other regions; that the syntony between territory and state only acquired its configuration from a "inner expansion" and that its consolidation occurred since a conquest -military, political and cultural- whose basis was slavery.
