Abstract: background. ercp is a very effective technique for treating obstruction of the biliary and pancreatic urgency, but it is not without risks for the patient. methods. we performed a descriptive study of retrospective and cross-sectional in 114 emergency ercp performed in the period 2008-2009 in the cncma in order to know the complications that occurred while performing this endoscopic procedure.results. the age group most affected was 60 to 69 years (25.4%) and female predominant (64.9%). obstructive jaundice (37%), acute cholangitis (31%), post-surgical injury of the biliary tract (24%) and pancreatitis (8%) were the causes of ercp indication of urgency in that order. gallstones (68%) constituted the main finding of the lesion followed by post-urgical bile duct (13%). the bleeding (2%) was the complication presented related endoscopic procedure, whereas hypertension (27%) and respiratory epression (8%) came in non-ercp.conclusions. knowledge of the diseases associated with initial patient chart prior to ercp and its management is mportant to prevent complications during the test.
