Abstract:

mirror neurons were initially described in primates from the macaca nemestrina species around 1990 by the neurophysiologist giacomo rizzolatti and his group from parma university in italy. they are motor neurons which become activated when an individual observes a concrete action for which they are predetermined without any type of motor activity being produced. it is currently considered that these neurons participate in adapting to the social setting since they lead to understanding other individuals' actions and intensions. a function has been ascribed to them regarding simple learning through observation and imitation which can be exploited in teaching anesthesiology.
