Abstract: introduction the quality of life of university professors) is an area of both controversy and interest for various disciplines. objective to make up theoretical approaches to the quality of life of university professors, taking complexity as the epistemological fundamental. methods critical hermeneutics and documentary review technique were used. results the quality of life of university professors emerged as reality in progressive deterioration in relation to the socioeconomic components, mental health and work satisfaction, being job, recreation, social and family support relevant compensators when the principles of complexity are considered. conclusions it is necessary to have approaches to the quality of life of university professors from multiple perspectives, with wide variety of criteria and complex and systemic conception of the realities, in order to create the network of interrelationships among their many components.
