Abstract:

the fruits of morinda citrifolia l. supplied by “santa clara” urban farm were used to do this work. a phytochemical screening was carried out and juice 30 and 60 % was prepared with the ripe fruit. 3 experimental models were developed; induction of plantar edema induced by carrageen, granuloma induced by cotton and auricular edema induced by croton oil. an indometacine solution was used as positive control and distilled water as negative control. in the first 2 techniques, 3 volumes of oral administration of the juice under study were used (10 ml/kg, 15 ml/kg, 20 ml/kg). the screening suggested the presence of tripertenes and/or steroids, aminoacids, reducing carbohydrates, alkaloids, and also flavonoids, though in a smaller number. the m. citrifolia juice 30 % had no effects on the acute inflammation in the technique of the plantar edema induced by carrageen, but the juice of the plant 60 % showed significant differences compared with the negative control group. in the model of granuloma induced by cotton, the noni juice 60 % revealed a behavior similar to that of indometacine and the dose of 20 ml/kg had an effect on chronic inflammation. the technique of auricular edema induced by topically administered croton oil had no favorable effects in relation to m. citrifolia juice 60 %. it was proved that the antiinflammatory effect of m. citrifolia 60 % in the oral administration may be connected with tis chemical composition.
