Análisis del tratamiento quirúrgico de 53 pacientes con fisura palatina

a review of 53 patients with cleft palate of different types that were treated at the maxillofacila surgery service of the "carlos manuel de céspedes" provincial general and teaching hospital, in bayamo, cuba, is exposed. the frequence and surgical techniques used to reestablish the stomatological and psychological functions of the child are mentioned here. the functional and aesthetic results were evaluated by a surgeon that did not take part in the operation, a speech therapist and orthodonthist. 88.7 % of the cases were considered as good, whereas 9.4 and 1.9 % were estimated as fairly good and bad, respectively. the results are discussed and compared with the national and international medical literature.
