Anatomopathological findings in the periosteum of calcaneal spurs

the authors members of the group of arthroscopic surgery of “hermanos ameijeiras” hospital applied their own endoscopic technique to treat the calcaneal spurs syndrome by resecting widely the subcalcaneal periosteum for considering it an important element in the clinical and physiopathological aspects of this affection. an anatomopathological study of the subcalcaneal periosteum was conducted. the photos show findings such as fibrosis, focal calcification and ossification of pathological character, since they are not physiological elements of this structure, but the result of the chronic inflammatory changes with worsening phases suffered by these patients. a review of the causes of calcification-ossification of soft tissues is made to discard them in the present study.
