Una estrategia para la disminución de la mortalidad materna

introduction: it is necessary the study of the extremely severe maternal morbidity (esmm) to complement the researches on maternal mortality, as well as the epidemiologic surveillance of these cases as a strategy for actions proposed by paho/ hwo in millennium summit to decrease the maternal mortality in 2015. objectives: to update and to incorporate the new concept of esmm in our daily practice. methods: a national and international review on this subject. a detailed analysis of the research on esmm in selected latin american institutions in 2008. the value of nee indicators related to these affections is explored. results: in our environment authors analyzed the features preventing the appropriate identification of cases and its timely treatment. conclusions: a proposal of solutions is carried out for the work os specialist charged of severe patients care and also on the organization features in our institutions.
