the history of ophthalmology in our country covers several attempts to maintain a periodic publication that would show the work of this specialty in cuba. for the third time and with the same title of cuban journal of ophthalmology, the present publication began circulating in 1988. this year 2010 witnesses the 22nd anniversary of the journal (1988-2009) and the objective of this review is to describe the published scientific work in these two decades of existence. all the analyzed materials were summarized in 22 volumes, 44 editions and 2 supplements covering 513 articles. the contents was organized in four indexes: articles, authors, institutions and themes. these indexes allow the easy search of information by the readers.
