an updated review on von recklinghausen's disease was made. the possible theories of the development of tumors of the nervous sheats, which are characteristic of the disease, were exposed. the diverse genetical forms of neurofibromatosis type 1 and its relation to the variant of familial spinal neurofibromatosis were made known. the imaging function, mainly magnetic resonance imaging, in the early diagnosis of the spinal neurofibromas and their characteristics were well identified.
