Epidemiología de la enfermedad cerebrovascular en la Isla de la Juventud, 2006-2009

a descriptive study was conducted to determine the behavior of cerebral ictus in inhabitants of isla de la juventud from march, 2006 to march, 2009. data from the patients registry were available seen in "héroes de baire" teaching and general hospital. work universe included 325 patients with this diagnosis and the sample included 212 survivors. the ischemic ictus and the intra-parenchymatous were more frequent. there was predominance of ictus in the male sex and in patients aged over 75. the ischemic ictus occurred in the morning hours and in the afternoon hours the hemorrhagic one. the risk factors were the high blood pressure, smoking and diabetes mellitus; the symptoms included a loss of muscular strength and language disorders, sequelae, paralysis of lower and upper extremities.
