this paper compares prion diseases and alzheimer's disease with the purpose of providing an epidemiological explanation for the increased incidence of the latter, as well as for the clinical and pathological similarity between the two, which is not due to chance, but probably of a causal nature, due to common mechanisms in their origin, since it is the disturbances in the formation of the normal protein structure which could explain not only the occurrence of these diseases, but also their ability to become infectious, with a potential to be contagious in a longer or shorter period and to a greater or lesser degree.
