the historical evolution of the international classification of diseases (icd) was summarily presented until reaching the present tengh review, specific assessments of the difficulties and limitations of its use were performed, above all, in primary medical and specialized care. the proposals that appear in the review of tghe international literature were presented and accepted to improve their application. furthermore, in these proposals the possible solutions have been discerned upon beginning already the next millennium.
