Abstract: an analysis of the leg arteries was made in a group of 45 patients with peripheral vascular disease that were amputated due to ischemic gangrene. it was observed a predominance of males (80 %). the associated risk factor in most of men was smoking (83.3 %) and diabetes mellitus in women (33.3 %). the adipose stria was the commonest finding among smokers and the severe plaque among diabetics. the moderate or severe ingestion of alcohol had the third place as regards elections. the indexes of obstruction were remarkable in diabetics and hypertensives, whereas stenosis prevailed among smokers and drinkers
