to determine the relation between heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (hit) as well as the development of thromboembolism events in patients admitted in hospital obrero no. 1, la paz, bolivia. a cross-sectional and prospective study was conducted with follow-up in 258 patients admitted in internal medicine and cardiovascular surgery departments of no. 1 worker hospital of health national fund. the hit frequency of presentation was of 8.5 % with a mean of presentation at 8 days without statistically significant association between hit and the thromboembolism complications (p< 0.05).
