the design of a descriptive, observational and cross-sectional study of the indication-prescription type with elements of therapeutic scheme and practical consequences was made. the municipalities that reported a higher consumption of antimicrobial agents for the treatment of infections of the urinary tract. were considered eligible for the study. 7 diagnoses of uti were made. the sample was composed of 863 patients. co-trimaxole, ciprofloxacin and nalidixic acid were used as main drugs. 2 of them did not correspond to the classification recommended for this entity. the antimicrobial agents used did not behave according to what is suggested and most of the therapeutic schemes were inadequate. besides, there were problems in the classification of the urinary tract infection.
