in past years the diagnostic frequency of thyroid nodule increased and it is one of entities of more attendance to endocrinology consultations in our country. despite there are not changes in differential diagnosis according to the nodule functional status, certainly some useful diagnostic elements have been incorporated to identify better the malignancy risk of lesion. the ultrasound (us) provides new data and to appear novel studies e.g. the elastography. the objective of present updating is to remember some criteria on the diagnosis of thyroid nodule, as well as to propose the features with a recognized scientific evidence at present time. may to be a working guide to contribute to a rational and optimal decision-making in the patient presenting with a thyroid nodule.
