Abstract: introduction: intentional deaths are still a frequent cause of mortality worldwide. several studies have reported differences in violent deaths between men and women. methods: an ecological study using the box-jenkins methodology time series analysis was implemented to evaluate the trends of this kind of deaths in a period of 8 years and compare the tendencies between genders. results: the results suggest that violent deaths are more frequent in men and homicides show a seasonal pattern. there is a decreasing tendency in the frequency of homicides except for women?s suicide group, where it has been stable. conclusion: this behavior could generate, in the long term, the loss of frequency differences among men and women.
