we performed a series of studies using plant waste polluting lake izabal, in order to obtain a substrate with sufficient quality can replace peat spangum, and hence to productive use remains dumped around the lake and cause economic, social and environmental. analysis was conducted physical, chemical and biological relevance of obtaining samples of this plant properties similar to peat, then experiments were conducted with different proportions of hydrilla in the substrate, obtaining excellent results both in tomato and sweet pepper with a combination of degraded hydrilla 30 days with a rate of 85% and 15% perlite (h30-85-15), being at once the treatment that produced the best economic benefit.
