in this work, we analyze the repertoire of learning strategies used by schoolchildren of the city of campina grande, paraiba, brazil. the study included 491 students of both sexes enrolled in the 6 th to 9 th year of elementary school for private and public schools, with an average age of 12 years and 7 months (sd = 1.7). the results were obtained by applying a collective scale of learning strategies. they indicated that there is a difference regarding the use of strategies by repeating and non repeating students. the difference is visible too, when we study groups according to gender, age, year and type of school attended. these results suggest that students may be aware of effective use of learning strategies, since they use them regularly in their daily lives. our research may suggest that further studies are needed in order to deepen and broaden the perception of the results presented here.
