Interpreting Network Buzzwords from the Perspective of Language Variation and SemioticsDOI: 10.4236/oalib.1111058, PP. 1-8 Subject Areas: Linguistics Keywords: Language Variation, Network Buzzwords, Social Dialect, Language and Culture, Language Symbol Abstract This paper discusses the nature of network buzzwords through “language variation”, a key concept of sociolinguistic research, and points out that network buzzwords are actually a language variant and a social dialect. Furthermore, some examples are cited and the sociocultural significance behind them is interpreted from the perspective of sociolinguistics. The inseparability of language and social culture is clearly stated. Furthermore, this paper provides a new perspective for the study of network buzzwords from the perspective of semiotics, aiming to improve the cognition of the overall cultural significance from the acquisition of the meaning of symbolic information.
