On Components and Promoting Path of College English Teachers’ Teaching Competence for Ideological and Political Education

Abstract

In the grand scenario of ideological-political education in Chinese universities, the construction of ideological-political education is posing higher requirement for the professional quality and teaching ability of college English teachers in colleges and universities. Considering the characteristics of foreign language education and the nurturing function of ideological and political education, it’s of great importance to explore the components and promoting path of college English teachers’ teaching competence for ideological and political education in the new era. The paper argues that college English teachers’ teaching competence for ideological and political education can be effectively enhanced through education and training, construction of developing platform, building of learning communities and improvement of assessment and evaluation mechanism. It is hoped that the exploration can offer implications for further theoretical and practical research in ideological and political education of foreign language teaching.
