The Position and Function of Chinese Character Teaching in the Professional Chinese Learning of Medical Students—Taking Overseas Medical Students from Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine as an ExampleDOI: 10.4236/oalib.1107820, PP. 1-9 Subject Areas: Linguistics Keywords: Chinese Character Teaching, Medical Chinese, Overseas Students Abstract At present, the teaching strategy of taking words as the basic unit is the mainstream in teaching Chinese as a second language, because Indo-European students are more likely to accept the teaching strategy of taking words as the basic unit. However, if overseas students reach the stage of beginning to learn professional Chinese, especially non-Chinese majors, the teaching strategy of taking words as the basic unit will hinder the progress of professional Chinese learning. According to the Chinese word formation and grammatical characteristics, combined with the investigation of overseas students learning medical Chinese in Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, we found that Chinese characters not only closely related to the continuous learning of Chinese by overseas students, also affected the learning of professional Chinese. Therefore, Chinese characters play an important role in the Chinese international promotion. Lv, Y. (2021).
