Professional development of science teacher educators in the context of innovation: Theoretical and methodological grounds for the analysis of a programme

Abstract:

In this article, we begin with a special section dedicated to identifying and describing the challenges that teacher-educators are likely to encounter, as they design and implement a programme to help teachers learn new paradigms of teaching and learning, in the context of the improvement of Science teaching. Thus, we understand that not only the teachers will need to reconstruct their knowledge, but, as well, the teacher- educators who, will need to check their craft. Subject to the perspective of theoretical and methodological review, we present, in this first step, an explanation of a instrument to help the analysis of a professional development programme for Science teacher educators, in the context of integration between the Faculty of Education, University of S o Paulo, the Regional Directory of Teaching and the Public Schools. As a result, we identify the main aspects that such a programme needs to include, for the professional development of its participants, in order to facilitate the enhancement of Science teaching in primary schools.
