CURRENT STATUS OF APPLICATIONS OF IONIC LIQUIDS FOR CELLULOSE DISSOLUTION AND MODIFICATIONS: REVIEW

Cellulose is an abundant and biorenewable polymer while ionic liquids (ILs) are considered as a green and nonderivatives solvent for cellulose which has the ability to apply as functionalizing medium in homogeneous phase. Hence, many studies and research have been achieved in this field. The objective of the present work is to review the great efforts of pioneers and current scientists to show different aspects of the utilization of ILs in cellulose dissolution, derivatization and functionalization (grafting copolymer and blends and composites). The information being provided here deals with significant progress in cellulose/ILs technology during the lastdecade.
