REVERSE RFID BASED TRACKING OF PUBLIC TRANSPORTKeywords: RFID , Reverse-RFID , GPS , Wireless Modem. Abstract: RFID is an exciting technology that uses passive and very low cost “tags” to identify things. This is used more and more frequently to replace bar codes to identify items such as merchandise in a retail environment. Normally, the objects being tracked are “tagged” and a sensor reads the RFID Tag in a “many- to-few” system. A new concept called “Reverse RFID” (R-RFID) reverses this technique: the tags are fixed and the objects being tracked have the reader. This is a very economical approach if there is a “few-to-many” relationship. Thispaper describes how this innovative Reverse-RFID concept can be effectively utilized for the tracking of public transportation in India.
