Research on nucleation of earthquake in km-size experiment

Nucleation process was an important part of earthquake mechanism.Through rock experiment,high temperature or high press and numerical model,we hold that the time critical scale of earthquake nucleation is 1/10,it generally is about 10~20km;the time of earthquake is from year to minute,so far as to millisecond.In this paper,we used rock-explosion observation in Hurfeng coal mine,Ningyang County in Shandong Province to study km-scale nucleation process.seismic pulse and 12,000 small rockbursts recorded at Huafeng seismograph station was analyzed between Feb.in 1995 and May in 1996.The result shows that the critical scale of earthquake nucleation is about 5 km,and the time of earthquake nucleation is about 50 days for a M_L=2.9 mine shock.
