FUTATROKIKELU: DON Y AUTORIDAD EN LA RELACIóN MAPUCHE-WINGKADOI: 10.4067/S0718-04622009000100003 Keywords: mapuches, mapuche-wingka, caciques, 19th and 20th centuries, state, pinochet sovereignty. Abstract: this paper explores the identifiable continuities in the mapuche-wingka relationship during 19th and 20th centuries. starting from a set of hypothesis on the historical or structural continuities of mapuche-huinca relationships during 19th and 20th centuries, this paper attempts to deal with the problem implied by the heterogeneity of perspectives that have read this relationship. is it a submission pact? or is it a society pact? from this second point of view, several consequences are developed, related to the relevance of the alliance notion instead of the hierarchical notion of descent; the importance of the notion of reciprocity instead of the notion of contract; and the "other's" relevance in the construction of a mapuche identity and authority. we seek to illustrate this hypothesis relating recent events such as the appointment of marcelina neculqueo as president of the indigenous peoples from the province of arauco by augusto pinochet, with the discourses made by the mapuche caciques from the 19th century, putting forward issues such as authority, gift and sovereignty in their relationship with huinca authorities.
