Abstract:

this article takes as starting point the play prat, of the company teatro de chile, whose first performance in the year 2002 appeared so disjointed and impertinent that it unleashed a polemic involving ultra conservative sectors, the ministerial bureaucracy and the artistic world, revealing the fissured zones of a truncated democratic transition. thus, this text begins with an aesthetic-artistic analysis of the play, to then look over the speeches - collected from the press and from personal interviews - of the different po-litical and artistic agents, who engaged in the controversy about prat’s first performance. finally, we outline some reflective notes about the role of cultural institutionalism in the theatrical field, and a critical review of bourdieu’s category of relative autonomy to understand the artistic fields.
