Noticias en la prensa sobre arqueología argentina: una herramienta para el estudio de la historia disciplinar contemporánea.

This paper reviews some critical-reflexive analyses on press releases about Argentine archaeology for the period 1997-2008. Press releases are an interesting tool for the study of archaeology history during a period that has been scarcely reflected upon in the discipline. The impact of the socio-political context on this area is evaluated, as well as the range of public communication of archaeology -as an integral part of social sciences- and the role of this discipline in the construction of our past. A historical evaluation is provided, discussing current and past views on Argentine archaeology by the scientific press of the period, considering the printing press as one of the most relevant means of information and public opinion formation.
