Remediation of heavy metal contaminated soils using clay minerals

The current status and risk of soil contaminated by heavy metals in China were introduced briefly. Subsequently, this paper presented the viewpoint of heavy metal contaminated soils remediation using clay minerals based on their effective decontamination ability. Moreover, the remediation mechanisms and research progress were described by the characteristics of natural and modified clay minerals, and its impact factors were also summarized. Finally, challenges of heavy metals contaminated soils remediation using clay minerals were analyzed, and future directions relating to this aspect were discussed.
