Hygiene and sanitation evaluation of dairy cows barn with regard to environmental protectionDOI: 10.2478/v10083-011-0004-7 Keywords: bioaerosol, cow barn, microorganism Abstract: The study aimed at the evaluation of hygiene and sanitation conditions of a dairy cows barn with regard to environmental protection. The research material comprised swab samples collected from the cows and environment. The biological aerosol was measured in the barn air by the sedimentary method. The microbial population isolated most frequently on the cow body proved to be Gram negative bacteria, while coagulase-negative staphylococci were most commonly identified at the milking equipment components. Importantly, the percentage of Staphylococcus aureus was the highest out of all microorganisms isolated in the barn. The barn air showed high levels of mesophilic bacteria and mold fungi counts.
