Abstract: This article covers material on features and prospects for the use of dynamically tuned and fiber-optic gyroscopes in the inclinometer. Furnishes the way to carry out a choice of the angular-rate sensor in the measuring module of the deviation survey using cost-effectiveness and integral criterions. Рассмотрены особенности и перспективы внедрения современных динамически настраиваемых гироскопов (ДНГ) и волоконно-оптических гироскопов (ВОГ) в инклинометрическую технику. Предложен подход, позволяющий осуществить выбор датчика угловой скорости (ДУС) в измерительном модуле инклинометрической системы (ИС), используя два критерия: стоимость-эффективность и обобщенный (интегральный).
Feasibility and Safety of Fiber Optic Micro-Imaging in Canine Peripheral Airways  [PDF]

Abstract: Purpose To assess the feasibility and safety of imaging canine peripheral airways (<1 mm) with an experimental micro-imaging fiber optic bronchoscope. Methods Twenty healthy dogs were scoped with a micro-imaging fiber optic bronchoscope (0.8 mm outer diameter). Images at various levels of the bronchioles, mucosal color, and tracheal secretions were recorded. The apparatus was stopped once it was difficult to insert. CT imaging was performed simultaneously to monitor progression. The safety of the device was evaluated by monitoring heart rate (HR), respiratory rate (RR), mean artery pressure (MAP), peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2) and arterial blood gases (partial pressure of arterial carbon-dioxide, PaCO2, partial pressure of arterial oxygen, PaO2, and blood pH). Results (1) According to the CT scan, the micro-imaging fiber was able to access the peripheral airways (<1 mm) in canines. (2) There was no significant change in the values of HR, MAP, pH and PaCO2 during the procedure (P>0.05). Comparing pre-manipulation and post-manipulation values, SpO2 (F = 13.06, P<0.05) and PaO2 (F = 3.01, P = 0.01) were decreased, whereas RR (F = 3.85, P<0.05) was elevated during the manipulation. (3) Self-limited bleeding was observed in one dog; severe bleeding or other complications did not occur. Conclusion Although the new apparatus had little effect on SpO2, PaO2 and RR, it can probe into small peripheral airways (<1 mm), which may provide a new platform for the early diagnosis of bronchiolar diseases.

Abstract: This paper point out the main reason that integrated optic device′s stability influences the stability of fiber optic gyroscopes , though the research of the integrated optic device′s characteristic . The method is design to track and compensate instability of the integrated optic device modulate degree in real time . The design is qualified and proved its validity though plentiful experiment .It can improve the stability of fiber optic gyroscopes.

Abstract: Gyroscopes are used for numerous defence and commercial applications. These include stabilization, guidance, and navigation of torpedoes; ballistic missiles and artillery shells; inertial navigation andinertial surveying; autopilot, stabilization and navigation of underwater vehicle, etc. Recently, automotive and consumer goods industries have shown significant attention towards purely commercial applications which include automobile accident-history recorder and stabilization of hand-held video camera. Fiber optic gyroscopes have several advantages over the mechanical and ring laser gyroscopes. The interferometer fiber optical gyroscopes (IFOG) is proven sensor in this field. Many methods exist for the design of proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers. This paper describes a constrained optimization aimed at reducing the excess gain-bandwidth of an initial controller thereby improving its performance. This problem can be overcome by implementing the design using FPGA.

Abstract: Fiber optic interferometers to sense various physical parameters including temperature, strain, pressure, and refractive index have been widely investigated. They can be categorized into four types: Fabry-Perot, Mach-Zehnder, Michelson, and Sagnac. In this paper, each type of interferometric sensor is reviewed in terms of operating principles, fabrication methods, and application fields. Some specific examples of recently reported interferometeric sensor technologies are presented in detail to show their large potential in practical applications. Some of the simple to fabricate but exceedingly effective Fabry-Perot interferometers, implemented in both extrinsic and intrinsic structures, are discussed. Also, a wide variety of Mach-Zehnder and Michelson interferometric sensors based on photonic crystal fibers are introduced along with their remarkable sensing performances. Finally, the simultaneous multi-parameter sensing capability of a pair of long period fiber grating (LPG) is presented in two types of structures; one is the Mach-Zehnder interferometer formed in a double cladding fiber and the other is the highly sensitive Sagnac interferometer cascaded with an LPG pair.

Abstract: This paper presents an overview of optical fiber sensor networks for remote sensing. Firstly, the state of the art of remote fiber sensor systems has been considered. We have summarized the great evolution of these systems in recent years; this progress confirms that fiber-optic remote sensing is a promising technology with a wide field of practical applications. Afterwards, the most representative remote fiber-optic sensor systems are briefly explained, discussing their schemes, challenges, pros and cons. Finally, a synopsis of the main factors to take into consideration in the design of a remote sensor system is gathered.
