objective: to analyze the relationship between nursing faculty professional profile and their preparation to teach the topic "death and dying" in undergraduate nursing program. methods: a descriptive study was used to collect and analyze data from 34 undergraduate nursing faculty members who answered a questionnaire. results: the findings did not support the presupposition that faculty maturity and professional experience had better preparation to teach "death and dying" for undergraduate nursing students. faculty teaching of the topic was theoretical and superficial. conclusion: there is a need for discussion and acceptance that undergraduate faculty members are not well prepared to teach "death and dying" in nursing undergraduate programs as well as to provide human and effective nursing care to those in the process of dying.
