Abstract:

the purpose of this work consisted in developing the minimally invasive endoscopic surgical technique of the thyroid gland in dogs, to acquire skills, abilities and surgical innovation, in order to create and experimental model. we performed a trial in dogs, developing the minimally invasive endoscopic surgical technique of the thyroid gland. we did endoscopic surgery of the rigth lobe of the thyroid gland to 7 hybrid eutrophic dogs. the mean weight of the sample was 12.43 kg (12-15.4 kg). the mean operative time was 169.29 minutes. we accomplished the cervical endoscopic blunt dissection in the 7 animals. in 6 of them, we assess the pretracheal space and thyroid cell with no complications. there was important intraoperative bleeding (10 ml) in one dog and open conversion of the procedure in just one. the complications were subcutaneous emphysema in one case and hematoma in another dog. the dog that had the massive subcutaneous emphysema died in the immediate postoperative time. in conclusion the endoscopic minimally invasive surgical technique of the thyroid gland in dogs represents a safe, feasible and adequate experimental model to develop skills in the cervical endoscopic dissection.
