Abstract:

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a significant public health challenge worldwide. Recent studies have shown that the gut microbiota plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of T2DM. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), as a conventional therapy, has demonstrated potential in regulating the gut microbiota. This article aims to explore the impact of the gut microbiota on T2DM and the latest research progress of TCM intervention. Relevant literature was systematically retrieved and studies involving the relationship between the gut microbiota and T2DM as well as TCM intervention were selected. Key bacterial species (such as Blautia) and the mechanism of action of TCM were analyzed in detail. Current research indicates that gut microbiota dysbiosis may lead to insulin resistance and chronic inflammation. TCM, by regulating the gut microbiota and improving metabolic status, provides a new strategy for diabetes management. The regulation of the gut microbiota offers new targets for the treatment of T2DM, and the effective intervention of TCM will provide a new perspective for the comprehensive management of T2DM treatment. Future research should further explore the mechanism of action and clinical application of TCM.
