On the Immigrant Cultural Identity in Zadie Smith’s “White Teeth”

扎迪？史密斯的小说《白牙》是一部优秀的后殖民主义作品，小说通过深入描写三个不同背景的家庭，揭示了英国战后移民面对的日益严重的社会和文化困境，涉及了种族，宗教，历史，文化认同等多个主题。本文将以代际变迁为脉络，从文化杂糅的角度分析多元背景下第一代移民，第二代移民是如何面对身份文化危机，以及如何在文化差异中寻找个体的文化认同感，从而实现移民文化的身份认同，最后本文揭示了移民身份的杂糅性和不确定性，体现了史密斯对多元文化和谐社会的提倡。
Zadie Smith’s novel “White Teeth” is an excellent work of post-colonialism. Through in-depth de-scription of three families with different backgrounds, the novel reveals the serious social and cultural dilemma and involves multiple themes such as race, religion, history and cultural identity. This paper will take the intergenerational transition to analyze how first-generation immigrants and second-generation immigrants face the identity and culture crisis and how to find individual cultural identity so as to realize the construction of immigrant identity. The novel reveals the hybridity and uncertainty of immigrant identity and embodies Smith’s advocacy of a multicultural and harmonious society.
