空气凤梨(Tillandsia)是地球上唯一完全生于空气中的植物。在21世纪初传入我国后因其生长不需泥土、管理方便、洁净美观、节省空间且具有净化空气的作用，特别符合现代家居生活理念，为人们所喜爱。但是目前由于对空气凤梨养护宣传科普不到位，导致部分室内景观空气凤梨在日常养护过程中生长势衰弱甚至死亡，影响种植者栽培欲望，降低空气凤梨在室内绿植的影响力。所以在现阶段，在家庭种植条件下，利用技术手段对空气植物的原生环境进行模拟并改进是空气凤梨产业发展的重中之重。
