Esophageal cancer in elderly patients: a population-based studyAbstract: Esophageal cancer (EC) is one of the most common cancers worldwide, with approximately 455,800 new EC cases and 400,200 deaths occurring in 2012 (1). In the United States, it was estimated that 16,980 people were diagnosed with EC and that 15,590 deaths occurred in 2015 (2). Although there have been many recent advances in diagnosis and therapy, the 5-year survival rate for EC ranges from 15% to 25% (3)
