Abstract:

The study was carried out to determine the knowledge level of nurses working in surgical units about evidence based practices related to patient transfer to the operating room. This descriptive study were carried out in the surgical units of a state hospital with a research and application center located in the Bat? Karadeniz Region and with 153 nurses working between March and April 2018. Data were collected using a questionnaire form prepared in accordance with evidence-based guidelines. In the evaluation of the data obtained; descriptive statistical tests and Pearson Chi-square test were used. In the study, while the majority of the nurses responded to the questions of ?safety belt use" and ?information that should be given to the operating room", most of the nurses asked the wrong answers to the questions of ?the time before the patient should be taken out of service?, ?evaluation of the surgical side marking, identification of the surgical side, identification of the surgical procedure and the time of the party verification?. ?n this questions; nurses who receive undergraduate questions ?at the time of identification, surgical procedure and party verification procedures and transfer team?; the nurses who worked for 6 years or more had the correct answer to the questions about ?surgical side marking? and ?use of safety belt? (p <0.05). The study revealed that the nurses working in the surgical units had not the desired level of knowledge about transferring patients to the operating room and the answers given according to some variables; showed that the variables such as educational status and working years of nurses had a significant effect on their knowledge status. According to these results; In the light of current guidelines on transferring patients to the operating room, information should be updated, nurses should be informed of the changing information quickly, and this issue should be included in in-service training and undergraduate education.
