"Effects of Drought Stress on Growth of Mulberry (Morus alba L. ) Trees in the Hydro-Fluctuation Belt of the Three Gorges Reservoir Area"DOI: 10.11721/cqnuj20120327, PP. 151-155 Keywords: droughtstress,hydro-fluctuationbeltofThreeGorgesReservoirArea,mulberrytrees,growth Abstract: "Toexaminepossibleeffectsofsoilwaterconditionsinsummerinthehydro-fluctuationbeltoftheThreeGorgesReservoirAreaonmulberry,wegrewpottedmulberryinagreenhouseunderthreesoilwaterregimesdesignedtosimulatenormalirrigation(CK),moderatedroughtstress(T1)andelevateddroughtstress(T2).Theresultsshowedthefollowing.1)Withdroughtstressincreasing,theheights,basediameters,androotsurfaceareasofmulberrytreesdecreasedsignificantlyrelativetothecorrespondingearlierperiod.Theroot/shootratioincreasedgraduallyintheearlierstage,anddecreasedgraduallyinthelaterstage.Thespecificrootareaofmulberrytreesonthewholeincreasedsignificantlyrelativetothecorrespondingearlierperiod.2)Withtheelongationoftreatmenttime,thegrowthofmulberryseedlingsdecreasedgradually,andtheheights,basediameters,rootsurfaceareaandroot/shootratioofthemulberrytreesinthethreetreatmentgroupsincreasedtodifferentdegrees.Thespecificrootareaofmulberrytreesonthewholedecreasedgradually.Weconcludedthatunderthedifferentdegreesofdroughtstressthegrowthofmulberrytreeswouldbeinhibited,buttheplantswerealsoabletoadapttothestress,therebymaintainingphysiologicalandmetabolicviability.Biomassappearedtobere-allocatedsuchthatwaterabsorptioncapacitywasimproved.Accordinglyitcanbeconcludedthatthemulberrytreesdemonstratedpotentialforresistingandtoleratingdroughtstress."
