Abstract:

Anewnumericalschemeof3rdorderWeightedEssentiallyNon-Oscillatory(WENO)typefor2.5DmixedGLM-MHDinCartesiancoordinatesisproposed.TheMHDequationsaremodifiedbycombiningtheargumentsasbyDellarandDedneretaltocouplethedivergenceconstraintwiththeevolutionequationsusingaGeneralizedLagrangeMultiplier(GLM).Moreover,themagnetohydrodynamicpartoftheGLM-MHDsystemisstillinconservationform.Meanwhile,thismethodisveryeasytoaddtoanexistingcodesincetheunderlyingMHDsolverdoesnothavetobemodified.ToshowthevalidationandcapacityofitsapplicationtoMHDproblemmodelling,interactionbetweenamagnetosonicshockandadensercloudandmagneticreconnectionproblemsareusedtoverifythisnewMHDcode.Thenumericaltestsfor2DOrszagandTang'sMHDvortex,interactionbetweenamagnetosonicshockandadensercloudandmagneticreconnectionproblemsshowthatthethirdorderWENOMHDsolversarerobustandyieldreliableresultsbythenewmixedGLMorthemixedEGLMcorrectionhereevenifitcannotbeshownthathowthedivergenceerrorsaretransportedaswellasdampedasdoneforonedimensionalidealMHDbyDedneretal.
